Aoife Byrne is an MSc Eng (Chemical) student in the Pollution Research Group at the University of KwaZulu-Natal. Her research focuses on the chemical, physical and biological characterisation of the faecal sludge produced from the Pour-flush sanitation system that was adapted in recent years for use in South Africa. The Water Research Commission funds the project.
