Stockholm World Water Week

by Susan Mercer | Aug 14, 2014

Hosted and organised by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), the World Water Week in Stockholm is the leading annual global event for addressing the planet’s water issues and concerns related to international development. The Week attracts over 2 500 participants and 200 collaborating organisations from around 130 countries all over the world.

The 2014 World Water Week in Stockholm will take place from 31st August to 5th September under the theme of “Energy and Water”.

eThekwini Water and Sanitation (EWS) has been named the 2014 winner of the Stockholm Industry Water Award, for its “transformative and inclusive approach to providing water and sanitation services”.

The Stockholm Industry Water Award (SIWA) honours outstanding and transformative water achievements by companies that contribute to sustainable water management. In 2000, the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI) established the Award in collaboration with the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA) and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), and is supported by the International Water Association (IWA) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).

The PRG has been closely involved with a number of innovative projects initiated by EWS under the Memorandum of Agreement between the two organisations, and these projects, together with the many other water and sanitation related programmes will be showcased at the World Water Week.

Chris Buckley (Head of the PRG), together with Ednick Msweli (who is taking over as head of EWS from Neil Macleod from October 2014) and Mr Teddy Gounden (Acting Project Executive, EWS) will be attending the World Water Week.
